Intro to Circulatory Vessels
Intro to Circulatory Vessels
Objectives:
1) General
considerations
A. Describe
the overall body organization of the elements that comprise the
cardiovascular
system.
B. Relate
the components of the cardiovascular system to function.
C. Describe
the basic morphologic features of tubular organs comprising the
cardiovascular
system.
2) Blood
vessels
A. Arteries
and Arterioles
1. Develop
a familiarity with the morphologic basis for classifying arteries.
2. Identify
arteries and arterioles in different profiles in tissue sections prepared for
light microscopy.
3. Correlate
arterial size and morphology with function.
B. Veins
and Venules
1. Develop
a familiarity with the morphologic basis for classifying veins and venules.
2. Identify
veins and venules in tissue sections.
C. Capillaries
1. Describe
the basic structural features of capillaries.
2. Correlate
morphologic characteristics of varying types of capillaries with their occurrence
in the body.
3. Identify
capillaries in tissue sections.
D. Lymph
vessels
1. Describe
the morphologic characteristics of lymph vessels.
2. Identify
lymph vessels in tissue sections and differentiate them from veins.
3. Discuss
the relationship of lymphatic vessels to the cardiovascular system in general.
E. Other
vessels
1. Describe
the morphologic features and functions of the following specialized vascular
structures:
a. blood
sinus
b. cavernous
vein
c. arteriovenous
anastomosis
